Why Choose Hughes Removals?
Our vast experience has taught us the best techniques needed to implement a successful house removal and we look to the smallest detail to ensure that things run as smoothly as possible.

How We Do Things
- We are piano removal specialists and can move any piano from a small upright to a grande. We use piano wheels for uprights and a slipper for grande piano’s.
- We use padded table, suite and flat screen TV covers for added protection of your goods. We also use mattress covers.
- We use special wardrobe cartons these ensure that your hanging garments are transported clean and crease free. The Wardrobe cartons also save you the time and trouble in packing your garments.
- A special dust free tissue is used when packing glassware, china, ornaments and kitchenware, thus eliminating the need to wash or clean these items after unpacking.
- Freshly laundered custom made blankets are used to carefully wrap your furniture in order to prevent damage in transit to your new home.
- The cardboard packing boxes we use, are offered, where practical, on a free loan basis with free delivery and free collection.
- During the course of your removal you are invited to witness the use of these specialist materials, and inspect the efficient way our staff effect your removal.
Storage Services
- Should you require storage, your furniture and effects will be carefully wrapped, inventoried and packed into special storage containers.
- The containers are then sealed and placed into a container store where they are held undisturbed awaiting your further instructions.
- This method of storage reduces handling and therefore minimises any risk of damage.
We hope that you will agree with us, that house removal does not come much better than with Hughes Removals.

Packing – Handy Tips
- Stay focused when packing – If possible pack one room at a time rather than bits from every room. Don’t be a martyr it’s time consuming and stressful, so be happy to accept any help offered.
- Use strong sturdy boxes of different sizes, get bubble wrap and newspapers to wrap fragile items. Tape, scissors and a marking pen will be crucial.
- Make an inventory of what you are putting in each box.
- A single packing box should ideally contain similar items. Think about you new home, and pack accordingly. It is also crucial to label each box clearly.
- Try to pack heavier items, books, canned food for example in smaller boxes or add lighter items cushions, towels etc on the top. Avoid loading more than 50 pounds into one box.
- Heavy items should always be placed at the bottom and lighter items on top to prevent damage. Wrap fragile items thoroughly, and wrap everything individually. Fill the boxes but do not overfill. Cartons under filled can crush when another box is placed on top. Close every box and seal with tape. Don’t forget to label every box.
- When packing fragile things, use old clothes and underwear to fill-in the spaces in the boxes. Mark the box Fragile if it contains breakable items.
- Our removal team will deal with items too big for boxes, pictures, mirrors etc. but they should be taken down.
- Chests of drawers can be left full as long as there are no breakables in them.
- Bedding, towels, softfurnishings etc are often better packed into Black bags
- Don’t forget the loft and garage items. Dismantle outside items such as swings, trampolines, sheds etc. Make sure plants are ready to be removed, heavy pots/tubs should be emptied.
- Every person should pack a box with items they may need straight away in the new house. Also prepare a box with essential items, like snacks, cleaning supplies, bedsheets and most importantly teabags, coffee, sugar, cups and the kettle!
- Do not pack important documents, passports, driving licences, birth certificates, financial documents , cash and jewellery. Keep these with you as they are not easily replaceable.
- Hazardous, flammable and explosive materials should never be packed as it is dangerous and illegal for movers to transport them. Perishable items such as plants and perishable food should not be packed either.
